📍 Address: Zhongzhao Village, Linmingguan Town, Yongnian District, Handan City, Hebei Province
Quanting Ancient Temple was originally established during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386–534 AD), making it over 1,500 years old and one of the oldest surviving Buddhist temples in southern Hebei. According to the Yongnian County Chronicles, the temple was initially named "Longquan Chan Yuan" (Dragon Spring Chan Monastery), derived from a perennial spring within the temple grounds, which gave rise to its name “Quanting” (Spring Pavilion). Through expansions in the Sui and Tang dynasties, renovations in the Song and Yuan periods, and major restorations during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the temple has maintained continuous religious activity and once served as a significant center of Buddhist culture in southern Hebei.
Quanting Ancient Temple serves as a vital physical testament for studying the spread of Buddhism, architectural evolution, and folk religious beliefs in Hebei Province. Its unique layout—“a temple built within a spring, the temple standing upon the spring”—embodies the ancient philosophical concept of harmony between humanity and nature. Designated a Hebei Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 2013, it remains an important venue for intangible cultural heritage preservation. Each year on the 19th day of the second lunar month, the Buddhist birthday of Guanyin, devotees still gather for prayer ceremonies and blessings.
🌸 One spring reflects a thousand-year-old temple; one temple shelters countless volumes of human culture. Visit Quanting, listen to the wind through the eaves’ chimes, and discover the path to inner stillness.
