Cai Shen Temple was originally established during the Ming Dynasty as a ritual site for the Quanzhen School of Taoism within Yuquan Yuan. Initially named "Chongzhen Shrine," it gradually evolved into a temple dedicated to the Five Directions of Wealth Gods due to the development of popular beliefs. The temple underwent multiple reconstructions during the Qing Dynasty, suffered damage in the turmoil of the Republic of China era, and was rebuilt in the 1980s by the Huashan Cultural Relics Administration according to original architectural standards, preserving the distinctive style of Ming and Qing dynasty buildings.
The hall faces south with its back to the north, measuring three bays wide and two bays deep, featuring a single-eaved hip roof covered with glazed tiles and intricately painted beams and rafters. A three-step stone staircase leads up before the hall, flanked by a pair of stone lions. Above the main gate hangs a plaque inscribed “Cai Shen Temple” in bold regular script. Inside, the central altar enshrines Zhao Gongming (the Martial God of Wealth) and the Five Directional Wealth Gods, while auxiliary deities include the Wealth-Inviting Children and the Li Shi Immortal Official. Traditional bronze incense burners and candlesticks are placed on the altar, and walls display commemorative plaques from generations of devoted worshippers.
✨ Cultural Note: Please remain respectful and quiet during worship. Offer simple incense with sincerity, in accordance with the ancient principle: “Gentlemen may love wealth, but they must obtain it through proper means.”
