📍 Address: East side of Tongguan Transportation Museum, Tongguan County, Shaanxi Province
The Tongguan Ancient Ferry Red Memory Museum is built upon the historical backdrop of the ancient Tongguan Ferry, a thousand-year-old crossing point. It focuses on pivotal moments during the War of Resistance Against Japan (1937–1945). As a crucial ferry site along the middle reaches of the Yellow River, Tongguan Ferry served as a vital artery for transporting supplies and moving troops among Shaanxi, Gansu, and Henan provinces. During the Anti-Japanese War, it became a key route from the "Eight Hundred Li of Qin Chuan" to the rear areas, through which countless military supplies and aid personnel crossed the river, making an indelible contribution to China’s ultimate victory in the war.
The museum’s architecture draws inspiration from traditional Ming and Qing dynasty residential styles, incorporating elements of northern Shaanxi cave dwellings. Constructed with blue bricks, gray tiles, and wooden beam columns, it reflects the architectural wisdom of the Guanzhong region. The interior layout follows a “central axis with two wings” design. The main exhibition hall presents history chronologically, enhanced by audio-visual multimedia installations that vividly recreate the bustling scenes of the ferry and its red heritage.
The museum houses over 200 physical artifacts and audiovisual materials, including:
A highlight exhibit, the "Tongguan Ferry Grain Transport Register from 1940," has been designated as a county-level immovable cultural relic.
This museum is one of Shaanxi Province’s first "Red Tourism Classic Scenic Areas" and an essential component of the national base for patriotic education. It not only documents the strategic military and economic importance of the Yellow River’s ancient ferry but also embodies enduring symbols of national unity and patriotism. It serves as a living archive for studying the history of transportation during the War of Resistance, Yellow River culture, and local revolutionary history.
✨ Tip: The museum features an immersive situational theater. Original short play Dawn at the Ferry is performed every weekend at 2:30 PM—recommended for visitors to reserve time to experience.
