📍 Location: 100 meters east of the intersection of Zhongjie and Power Plant Street, Zhenxing District, Dandong City, Liaoning Province
🕰️ Historical Background:
The South Sea Guanyin of Putuo Mountain, originally named "Guanyin Pavilion," was built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1875) and is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Liaodong region. The name is derived from the classic "South Sea Putuo," intended to echo the Guanyin Temple on Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province, expressing the people's faith in compassion and alleviation of suffering. After more than a century of wind and rain, it has been restored several times and is now a key cultural relic protection unit in Dandong City.
🏛️ Architectural Layout:
The scenic area is built on the mountainside, with an overall layout that is symmetrically aligned along a north-south central axis. The main buildings include the main gate, the main hall, the bell and drum towers, and the Guanyin Saint Statue Square. The main hall is a wooden structure with a double-eaved and hipped roof, featuring upturned eaves and corners, intricately carved beams and painted rafters. Below the eaves, copper bells hang, gently tinkling in the wind, with the sound of Buddhist chants echoing. Inside the hall, a 3.6-meter-high white marble statue of the Guanyin Bodhisattva is enshrined, with a benevolent expression, holding a pure water jar, symbolizing the "sweet dew sprinkling over the world."
